Love thy…Coupons?

I read an article today entitled 7 Reasons Why Coupons Rock.  You can find it here. I absolutely LOVE this article. My love for it comes mostly because I am a huge coupon advocate and can relate to some of the things she has to say. Using coupons can save so much money! I am never ashamed to say that I use coupons to save myself money. My greatest enjoyment from using coupons comes at the register. I love to see the cashier’s face when they realize how much we save with the coupons. I’ve apologized for the amount of coupons but I have always received the same response: “Don’t be sorry, you just saved enough for a tank of gas. That’s fantastic.”

My current inventory of coupons and the binder I keep them organized in.

No, my goal is not to be one of those extreme coupon women that you see on television.  I only buy things that we use and within realistic quantities. Another misconception is that it takes too much time to use coupons. Well, what I do is save the entire coupon pack that comes in the newspaper or mail. Instead of cutting them out once a week when we get them, I cut out only those that I will need when I plan my shopping trip. I also print coupons off of the Internet through websites like Redplum and Smart Source. There are plenty of websites that help you plan your grocery trip by listing what is on sale and what coupons you should use to get a better deal. One of the most popular is Coupon Mom but my favorite is In Good Cents.  Since the author of In Good Cents lives in the Indianapolis area, I have found that her information has been slightly more accurate for me. I also like the Totally Target website, however, I have again run into a few incidences where the information posted hasn’t been completely accurate. I’ve learned to roll with the punches and know my options.  I encourage you to draw your conclusion based on your own experiences.

I am not an expert by any means. However, I am happy to share what I have learned along the way to help others from having to spend their time with trial and error. There are so many different tips and techniques when it comes to coupon use – I’ll save my details for another day.  Nicole and I have been tossing around the idea of organizing something where we can get together with other coupon users in the Indianapolis or South Bend area to exchange tips, techniques, and of course coupons.
