I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I realize that I am a little behind since a lot of people read the book before seeing the movie or read the book right after seeing the movie. I have to admit that I have read books that were the inspiration for a movie (sometimes not knowing that the movie was inspired by a book until after seeing the movie), but my preference is to read the book first if possible. I enjoy comparing the two and watching the story come to life on the screen.
In the past year, I have read a few books that I have enjoyed. In addition to Water for Elephants, I would also recommend:
- The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill – This book encompasses some history mixed into a great story. It is about the slave trade so there are some less than nice things described throughout the book.
- This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper – I enjoyed this book because it is from a male perspective. This is the first of its kind that I have read and I will look into more books like it. It is a good change of pace to read something described by a male character.
- Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese – Hands down, one of my top two favorites out of recent reads. Majority of the book takes place in Africa.
Have you read any good books lately? I would love a few recommendations for books worth reading!Don’t forget that we are going to be giving away a set of greeting cards next Wednesday! Be sure to comment on Nicole’s “Giveaway Wednesday” post to enter your name into the drawing!
